• Atheists for Islam

I occasionally glance over the FtB boards, largely for the same reason that I keep an eye on the stirrings amongst the neo-fascists: it’s something to sharpen my fangs on.  They’ve recently added a blogger, an Iranian apostate who has written a very tough post on the violence and cruelty of Islam.  There are some flaws – the idea that the poor are the most radicalized (they aren’t), the complaints about the wascally West and Israel, but it is a very good piece otherwise and worth the read.

And lo and behold, the comments section is full of people trotting out their excuses, equivocations and whitewashes of Islam.

I’m baffled by this attitude.  Do such people think they are fooling anyone for eight seconds? And do they think that any case for atheism will be believed when it is so obviously a bluff?

I have not counted the responses, but there seems to me a balance of those who accuse him of “over generalizing” and diversionary critique of christianity and judaism and those agreeing with him in his assessment.
