June 9 – Ellery Schempp speaks in Harrisburg

Ellery Schempp

Dr. Ellery Schempp

I will be travelling to Harrisburg, Pennsylvania this Sunday for fellowship with secularists including Dr. Ellery Schempp. I hope to see you at the Midtown Scholar where Dr. Schempp will be speaking and The Brewhouse Mountain Inn for the reception following Dr. Schempp’s presentation.

From the event’s Facebook page:

This event is sponsored by PA Nonbelievers and ACLU-PA.

Dr. Ellery Schempp will be at the Midtown Scholar in Harrisburg at 2pm on Sunday, June 9. Dr. Schempp’s case was one of the two cases decided by the Supreme Court (The other was Madalyn Murray O’Hair’s case) that removed compulsory prayers from the public school system. This event is in honor of the 50th anniversary for that case. We will release more information as we can.

On Monday, June 10th, Dr. Schempp will be at the PA General Assembly. We are hoping that he will have the opportunity to address the Assemby. At 11am, he will take part in a press conference to discuss the “Public School Religious Freedom Month” resolution, honoring the 50th anniversary of the Abington V Schempp and Murray v Curlett cases.

More information about the case is available here:

Following the talk, there will be a reception for Dr. Schempp at Lauri Lebo’s place (The Brewhouse Mountain Eco-Inn) at 5pm. If you plan to attend, please bring a dish to share.
