• DNC Plotted Atheist Attack Against Sanders

secular voterAccording to The Intercept_, Wikileaks has exposed e-mails from inside the DNC showing that there was a coordinated effort to attack Senator Bernie Sanders on being an atheist ahead of the Kentucky and West Virginia primaries. This is not a conspiracy theory, but it is a conspiracy. It is a conspiracy of those in the DNC who decided that they did not want Sanders to be the candidate and who broke the Party’s position on neutrality in an effort to favor Hillary Clinton.

DNC CFO Brad Marshall sent the e-mail with the subject line, “No shit,” to DNC’s communications director Luis Miranda, DNC’s press secretary Mark Paustenbach, and DNC’s CEO Amy Dacey. Here is the e-mail complete with typos:

“It might may no difference, but for KY and WVA can we get someone to ask his belief. Does he believe in a God. He had skated on saying he has a Jewish heritage. I think I read he is an atheist. This could make several points difference with my peeps. My Southern Baptist peeps would draw a big difference between a Jew and an atheist.”

I might expect to see this type of thing from the Trump campaign. Hell, I might even expect it from the Clinton campaign even though it would be a despicable attack and if her campaign did do something like this, it would be absolutely unacceptable. But no, this was from inside the DNC. The DNC, who is supposed to stay neutral in the primary contest decided that they wanted to attack one of Democratic Candidates for President for being an atheist.

Being an atheist is not a bad thing. In today’s society, atheists tend to be the people who champion science, reason, tolerance, and diversity. A large number of Democrats are atheists and the DNC better start to realize that if they want to continue asking us for money and support. Every year, more and more atheists are openly running for political office and as far as I can tell they almost exclusively run as Democrats. Is the DNC going to attack Maryland’s 8th congressional candidate, Jamie Raskin, for being an atheist? Should we all paint scarlet “A’s” on our foreheads?

This is unacceptable and the atheist community should not stand for it. We should demand Brad Marshall’s resignation and that of Amy Dacey, who replied to the e-mail with, “Amen.”

And they talk about Trump’s war on Muslims. What about the DNC’s war on atheists?
