• The Reality of Atheist Blogging

good we trust“Being a freedom fighter, a – a force for good, it’s – it’s a wonderful thing. You get to make your own hours, looks good on a resume, but the pay – sucks.” – Alfred Bester, Babylon 5 – Moments of Transition

As an atheist activist, I feel a little like a freedom fighter. The Religious Right dominate this country and this world and fighting back against them in government, in the public square, and online helps to make the world a better place. As I have often said, religion is a threat to human happiness, human progress, and human survival on this planet… but the pay really does suck.

I have operated Dangerous Talk in one form or another for probably close to two decades now. Much to my wife’s chagrin, it is not a money making activity. Unlike the vocally religious who seem to easily be able to buy gulfstream jets and mega-mansions, atheism doesn’t really pay and that is the godless honest truth.

Earlier this year, I asked for funds to help send me to the Religious Newswriters Association conference. Thanks to a small handful of donors, I was able to go and report back on some awesome experiences. I also got the opportunity to talk with some hardcore religious believers from Focus on the Family and the Vatican. I made positive impressions on people who normally demonize atheists. Also, through that conference, I was able to make connections that will help bring atheism to the general public. That conference was a massive win and I wouldn’t have been able to go if it wasn’t for a small handful of supporters who donated to my efforts.

I am asking every atheist who has the means to help fund atheist activism. Of course I would love it if you contributed a few dollars to Dangerous Talk, but if you aren’t a fan of mine, that’s okay too. Donate to some other atheist activist that you are a fan of. It doesn’t have to be a lot. A few dollars here and there mean a lot to struggling atheist bloggers, vloggers, podcasters, etc. I also set up a Patreon page you can contribute to.

Or, don’t spend any money at all. There are things in the sidebar such as Amazon affiliate links to shop with… among other things. 😉 Feel free to Bookmark this URL and use it when you shop at Amazon: “http://astore.amazon.com/dangtalk-20” I even created an ongoing atheist bookstore (link also in the sidebar) that not only includes all the big names, but also includes lesser known atheist authors – some of which have written some outstanding books. Hopefully soon, I will join them. I have about half a dozen book projects in the works and I am almost finished with the first one.

As the winter season starts coming around feel free to check out the Dangerous Talk Bookstore for holiday gifts for your atheist friends and family. There are even a few cool kid books like, There Are Not Monsters Under Your Bed, Me & Dog, Humanism, What’s That?, Little Changes, Older Than The Stars, and I Wonder, which was written by Sam Harris’s wife Annaka.

One of my favorite books that came out this year is Marshal Brain’s book, How “God” Works. This is absolutely a must read for all active atheists. Oh, and Dave Silverman is about to release a book. You can pre-order it now (link in the sidebar). It’s the Book of the Month.

The religious have no problem funding the spread of their memes. Richard Dawkins invented the word and yet atheists seem to have a real problem funding memes of our own. Support atheist bloggers and activists. Contribute to my Patreon page.

Don’t forget to “like” Dangerous Talk on Facebook and share my content everywhere.
