• They Can’t Take It With Them

I have been wondering about something for a while now. It seems that people like Romney and the Koch Brothers are all about making money. That’s great, I get that. But what do they do with the money they make? That’s easy they use it to make even more money. Then what? They use that money to make even more money. The problem is that they aren’t young people like Mark Zuckerberg; they are old farts who will die soon.

At what point will they have enough money to use that money to really enjoy their lives and to better the world? It seems that people like the Koch Brothers are too focused on making money and stockpiling their money. It really is sad. Even if they believe in Heaven, they have to know that their imaginary paradise won’t give them more bliss for being rich, right?

Enter atheist Richard Branson. He might not have Koch Brother money, but he is certainly rich and he spends his wealth doing two important things. First, he spends money enjoying life. He owns a nice island and is known for partying and having a good time. He flies around the world in balloons and airplanes and is a bit of an adventurer. But he also spends him money for the betterment of humanity. He supports a wide variety of charities and his new company Virgin Galactic is planning on pushing the boundaries of space exploration why planning to build a human colony on Mars by the end of his lifetime. Sure, Branson is continuing to make money just like the Kochs, but he isn’t hording that money. He is spending it to make the world a better place.

Bill Gates, another atheist, is spending his money to help cure malaria in Africa among other things. He also pledged to give half his fortune to charity when he dies. Plus, there is little doubt that Microsoft will continue to advance the computing industry which will push human progress further. It might even help out with Branson’s Mars colony.

The Kochs are older than Gates and Branson and yet they seem to only care about making and hording wealth. I just don’t get it. Money might be able to prolong life, but they haven’t even put a lot of money into that kind of medical research. They just seem to believe that when they die they can get to line their coffins with money as if that means something to their dead corpses. Someone please send them a memo, that they can’t take their wealth with them.
