And so it begins…

I’ve been gloomily warning that, on its current track, what awaits Europe’s future is a bloody civil war between the native and the Islamic far right.  In France a recently formed anti-immigrant group called Generation Identitaire has seized a Mosque at Poitiers (gulf news link, but all the others I found were either French or far-right).

What’s significant is that this is a deep change from the previous far-right’s philosophizing and muttering on the internet.  This is a group that, like the EDL, is taking it to the street, one that really means it (watch their video, by the way, if you want to lose some sleep).

    Islam has a long, bloody history in W. Europe, not to mention almost every other part of the world. The lubricant of this particularly nasty religion is blood and fear. Reason and diplomacy are well proven to be ineffective, but violence and warfare have enjoyed a long record of success in thwarting Islamic expansion . The peoples of W. Europe fought many wars to stop Islam before, perhaps they will have to do so again.

      I hardly disagree with you when it comes to the horrors of Islamic imperialism, and I fully concede that this is nothing compared with, e.g., the ceremonial gang rapes carried out by Muslim gangs in les banlieus; but I should still rather not see open war.

    I’m not sure how I got there, perhaps reddit, but I just saw two videos of Muslims implementing sharia in a “Muslim area” of Great Britain, mostly by taking people’s alcohol, yelling at them, gloating over an accident, and vandalizing bra advertisements. This annoys people, and some of it is illegal.

    Still, that’s nothing compared to the occupation of a mosque by what appear to be Christian supremacists. While the linked video is gone, they’re obviously very proud of this and will re-upload it, so google (this is a lower-case word now, right?) “Mosque at Poitiers Occupied Génération Identitaire” and you’ll see it. I’m glad that I can’t imagine anything remotely like that happening in my country.

    I wouldn’t want to be a French skeptic right now. A choice between the radical right and fanatical Muslims is highly unappealing.

    Very sobering article, much to think about. I don’t understand why we rarely hear this news in America. Thanks for bringing it to light.
