What kind of faith needs guns in its defense?

So this is what Jesus meant when he said this? “But now, he that hath a purse, let him take it and likewise his pack; and he that hath no sword, let him sell his garment and buy one.” Luke 22:36.

I find this very disturbing. But I can imagine that if I were a Christian I’d find it even more disturbing. A politician tells a Christian talk radio show this:

“[Guns] are used to defend our property and our families and our faith and our freedom, and they are absolutely essential to living the way God intended for us to live.”
And the host calls it a “benediction”.

If your god intended us to live armed and paranoid, I’d start shopping around for a better god.

That is a good point but I very much doubt they will ever figure this out.

I think believers don’t really shop for a god, they just project their own personality into the sky.

Before the passage about turning the other cheek, Jesus says in the King James, “resist not evil.” He also tells Peter “all they that take the sword shall perish with the sword.”

I’ve asked a lot of Christian gun nuts I know how they justify this. The answers are actually quite comical.
