• Bryan Fischer discusses why hurricane Sandy victims cannot get aid

Bryan Fischer, the public face of the homophobic American Family Association, is the embodiment of religious right misanthropy. He is racist and anti-science. He said prayers for the school shooting were not answered because the praying persons’ hands were “full of blood” (the victims I guess?). But as you thought Fischer couldn’t get any worse, we got this:

    Hogwash, of course.

Of course, FEMA just today said that the flood insurance program is about to run out of funds and officials from Sandy-affected states roundly criticized the House Republican leadership for refusing to put the urgent care package up to a vote.

So let me get this straight. We CAN afford to renew tax cuts on individuals earning $400k a year. But we can’t afford to help those made homeless in the dead of the winter by a hurricane? But, of course, Fischer would call raising taxes on the wealthy to help hurricane victims “demonic”, as that is a violation of the 10 commandments.

Next time someone tells you how much of a better person religion makes you, it is worth pointing out that in some (very prominent) cases it can also make you a revolting asshole.

But it was not until a long time later, after I learned about evolutionary science, that I came to identify myself as an atheist. And only then, I came to know the religious right in the US. No need to say, that made me much more passionate about what I believe in and what I stand for. Read more...
