• David Barton explains why he doesn’t care about climate change

Few have misinformed the public in the US more than this man

When I blogged about the pernicious effect of religion on public understand of climate science, a commentator asked why religious right figures would become climate change denialists. Well, speak of the devil: we have the answer straight from the horse’s mouth.

David Barton, the evangelical right pseudo-historian who appeared in the climate science-dismissive video series “Resisting the Green Dragon”, tells us exactly why he doesn’t care about climate change:

Sometimes we let our cultural positions or our political positions trump our biblical positions.  And that’s what the Religious Left has done, saying ‘yeah, yeah, yeah, we know the Bible is about life and marriage and those other things, but we’re really concerned about global warming and about saving the planet and etc, and so we want you to be concerned about that too.’

Alright, show me that in the Bible and I will be concerned about it.

You can listen to Barton here.

If Mr Barton comes down with cancer, will he be unconcerned, and not seek treatment? Therapy for cancer is not in the bible either.

No need to say, that made me much more passionate about what I believe in and what I stand for. Read more...
