Social pressure in action

Grrrr. I used to HATE when they made us do stuff like this in church. If cameras were involved it was even worse. I despised this malarkey.

I wonder if they had to duck walk too…

You never know. Those songs can be quite humiliating.

Or on second thought, maybe this is where the chicken dance came from?

    • BethAnnErickson

      Hahahaha. Thanks for the laugh.

I had to lead the congregation with this kind of crap for Sunday school in my father’s church. There were even visual aids for some of the songs like stop and yield signs.

It’s been 40 years since I last did this, but I still remember the lyrics to these dreadful songs. I sang one to my husband once, he thought it sounded totally perverted. Here are the lyrics:

“Deep and wide, deep and wide
There’s a fountain flowing deep and wide
Deep and wide, deep and wide
There’s a fountain flowing deep and wide”

That’s all there is to it. Of course, it’s so much better when sung with hand motions.

I remember that song! Man… hope I can get it out of my head. If I sing it all day, I’m heading your way and will implant, “Always look on the bright side of life.” So there.

I might implant “Jesus Loves Me, This I Know”. This could be war!

Do you remember those “Stop”, “Go” and “Yield” songs? I still remember all of the lyrics to those. Isn’t memory sort of sad? I can no longer remember most of the French I learned but ask me about some inane church song, and I’m your gal. Yikes!!!

        • BethAnnErickson

“STOP… and let me tell you, what the lord has done for me…” Dang it. Now I have another one rolling around my noggin. “Go and tell the story…” I forget what “Yield” did.

About this war thing… just think. We could escalate the controversy, lob insults back and forth, and increase blog hits. Imagine the publicity.

Or not. I’m too tired for such stuff. I’ll just covertly implant inane songs in unsuspecting minds. Oh wait, Christians do that.

Dang. What’s left for us to do?

“Yield to Jesus Christ the right of way, he’s your friend and he cares for you. He will lead you to a brighter day, into pathways ever new.” Different tune than the “Stop” and “Go” songs.

About the war thing…I’m too tired for such stuff as well. (Never did like the song “Onward Christian Soldiers”. Demanding that everyone think my way and shooting poison verbal darts if they don’t, just isn’t my thing.

Ah, thanks for the “Yield” thingie. Plus, I’m with you on the war thing.
