• On this whole “Two and a Half Men” is filth thing…

Unless you’re surfing under a rock, you’ve undoubtedly noticed that a young star of Two and a Half Men has denounced his show as “filth.” Honestly, I didn’t really intend to write about this. Watching a young man sink into the insanity of Hollywood is just plain sad.

However, when I heard that these remarks were as a result of his finding religion, Seventh Day Adventism (SDA) to be exact, I felt I could add my voice to the choir saying, “Huh?” You’d think that a person who earns 300k+ per episode would measure their public words carefully. But he didn’t.

    Here’s what he said:

Angus T. Jones, who plays Jake Harper on Two and a Half Men, is apparently a very serious Christian. He recently did a testimony of his awakening, which was posted to YouTube. In the testimony he praises God and also admits he hates the show is he on. Sounds like he is begging to be fired.

First disclaimer. I don’t watch Two and a Half Men very often. Not because it’s “filth” but because it just doesn’t interest me. I’d rather watch a movie, old episodes of Dexter, Jonathan Creek, Firefly… anything but 2.5. Here’s what he says about his show:

“Please stop watching it and filling your head with filth. People say it’s just entertainment. Do some research on the effects of television and your brain, and I promise you you’ll have a decision to make when it comes to television, especially with what you watch.”

Second: I have a bit of experience with the SDAs. After my husband’s heart attack ten years ago, I flew to Tennessee to get schooled on their cooking techniques (SDAs live ten years longer than the average American, are awesome cooks, live a clean lifestyle… I wanted to find out how they did this.) While in Tennessee, I learned more about SDAs then I ever thought possible. To call them strict would be an understatement. The only take away from that experience was the cooking certification, nothing else.

If this young actor is tangled with these folks and if he has adopted their teachings, I’m not remotely surprised he’d go on such a rant, especially if he swallowed their beliefs. Here’s his testimony:

Update: Angus T. Jones has apologized.

“Two and a Half Men” star Angus T. Jones wants his cast, crew and producers to know he meant no “disrespect” by his comments in a recent YouTube video, where he called the show “filth.”

“I have been the subject of much discussion, speculation and commentary over the past 24 hours,” Jones’ statement, released on Tuesday night through a rep, read. “While I cannot address everything that has been said or right every misstatement or misunderstanding, there is one thing I want to make clear.

“Without qualification, I am grateful to and have the highest regard and respect for all of the wonderful people on ‘Two and Half Men’ with whom I have worked and over the past ten years who have become an extension of my family,” his statement continued.

Finally Rainn Wilson (Dwight from The Office) has created a parody of the event.
