• Costco vs. Walmart

Here’s a neat video about how Costco treats its employees versus Walmart. It reminded me a lot of what I saw in Michael Moore’s Capitalism: A Love Story. Moore documents several businesses that are run in a quasi-socialist manner; the employees receive a share of the profit based on how many hours they work. As I understand it, Costco runs its business in a similar fashion, except that employees are not given a straight-out percentage of the profit. Instead, they are paid a higher hourly wage, and a wage which is much closer to the amount of money the employee generates for the company than other businesses pay. I’m now more motivated than ever to start shopping there.

Anyway, I think it’s quite possible that businesses in the future will be run in a quasi-socialist fashion, or at least that more businesses will operate this way than do presently. And I think that will be a great thing for all of us working folks.
