There is a new documentary by award-winning filmmaker Alex Gibney that’s just been released called Mea Maxima Culpa (or “Silence in the House of God”). It is about the beginning of the Catholic Church’s cover up of child sex abuse cases in the 50’s, 60’s and 70’s. The story revolves around the Milwaukee-based priest named Father Lawrence Murphy, who ran a school for deaf children. He used his position of authority to sexually abuse many of his students. This is disgusting and is one of the reasons why I hate the Catholic Church with a passion.
