South Korea Censors Mobile Porn and Bad Words

South Korea Censors Mobile Porn and Bad Words

To ‘protect’ the young, that’s the excuse:

The South Korean government has laid out plans to install software on teenagers’ smartphones that will block “‘illegal [and] harmful information.” The Ministry Of Gender Equality And Family believes that installing the software will block swear words and slang — as well as prevent cyber-bullying — on social and messaging networks such as KaKao Talk, Facebook, and Twitter. The governmental body will also require a compulsory filtering service for mobile carriers that will block “harmful information” that includes pornography and nudity.

So, how exactly is it that the Government telling teenagers what’s wrong and what’s right is ‘protecting’ them? How about letting them make their own minds? How about not using taxpayers’ money in order to make the moral opinion of some into the law? How’s that for protection?

So, on one’s 20th birthday, one can legally remove the software? Yeah right.

Or it might expire. What are they going to do with parents buying smarphones for their teenagers? Is this “fu.ck” a way around it?

I teach in Korea. My school district’s censor blocks me from Google docs. Baby is definitely getting thrown out with this bathwater.

      What?!? Google Docs? Why?
